Marginalized Communities Advocacy Network is East- Africa Regional-based non-governmental and non-profit organization established in 2006. MCAN works to promote the rights, inclusion, and participation of marginalized and minority communities in Somalia. The organization implements programs in advocacy, protection, health, nutrition, education, livelihoods, climate change adaptation, and environmental sustainability, with a strong emphasis on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and youth leadership.
MCAN partners with national and international stakeholders to ensure that vulnerable populations especially women, children, persons with disabilities, and minority groups are represented in decision-making processes and have equitable access to services, opportunities, and protection. Through climate change and environmental initiatives, MCAN also supports resilience-building, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development for communities most affected by environmental shocks.
