The Protection sector stands as one of MCAN’s fundamental areas of intervention among its five core sectors. Its overarching goal is to safeguard the human rights of individuals affected by conflict and displacement, striving to eliminate any protection needs arising from displacement.
Safeguarding Conflict- and Displacement-Affected Individuals The objective of our protection efforts is to guarantee that individuals affected by conflict and displacement not only enjoy their human rights but also encounter no protection needs stemming from displacement.
Defining “Protection”
Protection encompasses all endeavors directed towards ensuring the complete adherence to the rights of individuals in accordance with the principles and provisions of pertinent legal frameworks, namely human rights law, international humanitarian law, and refugee law, both in letter and spirit.
Child Protection
MCAN actively encourages, champions, and nurtures social, economic, and political transformations within vulnerable groups of marginalized and minority communities in the Horn of Africa region. Specifically, the focus is on empowering youth, children, and women.
MCAN's core competencies revolve around advocating for the rights of minority and marginalized communities, encompassing the right to peace, sustainable livelihood and development, protection and human rights, quality education, access to justice, and political participation. This is achieved through close collaboration and coordination with community members, national and international organizations, UN entities, as well as National Governments & Federal and State-level government entities.
