INTRODUCTION

We are MCAN

Established in June 2006 in the East of Africa especially Kenya and Somalia as a CBO, MCAN has grown to a regional non-profit humanitarian and development organization. Our mission is to support the most vulnerable & marginalized individuals affected by crises in the Horn of Africa, focusing on areas such as Protection, Advocacy, Health & Nutrition, Education, WASH, food security, economic development, orphan and child care, youth and women empowerment, as well as promoting peace-building, Conflict Resolution, and good governance.

MCAN - Voice for the voiceless

MCAN is officially registered as a humanitarian and development organization in accordance with the legal frameworks of the Kenya and Somalia states where it operates. The foundation is fully compliant with local laws, encompassing taxation, labor regulations, and NGO operations. Our organizational structure is meticulously maintained, featuring a transparent division of responsibilities and lines of authority. At the helm is MCAN’s Board of Trustees (BOT), the highest governing body, overseeing the Executive Committee led by a chairman and supported by the Executive Director.

All organizational affairs, spanning financial management, human resources, and procurement, are governed by meticulously crafted policy manuals, rigorously reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees. The executive management team is entrusted with the execution of comprehensive strategic plans and annual operational budgets that align with the 5-year strategic plan (2023-2028). This framework serves as a blueprint for implementing activities, achieving milestones, and meeting higher-level objectives. Detailed financial budgets accompany the annual operational plan to ensure effective support for the outlined activities.

To foster continuous improvement, MCAN prioritizes ongoing institutional building and capacity enhancement for both the organization and its dedicated staff. Our commitment to excellence extends across borders, with MCAN actively operating in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Eritrea, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
