


Statement on Regional Authority Visit to Marka, Lower Shabelle, in Coordination with UN and other international Organizations.
On 25th Feb 2024, a delegation from the Regional Authority, in coordination with United Nations agencies and other international partners visited Marka in Lower Shabelle. The purpose of the visit was to assess the situation of people impacted by drought, insecurity, and El Niño floods in the region.
During the visit, the delegation met with local communities, government officials, and representatives from the National organizations to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by the people of Marka. They also assessed the impact of the recent drought, insecurity, and El Niño floods on the livelihoods and well-being of the population.
The delegation observed the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, including food, clean water, shelter, and healthcare, to address the immediate needs of the affected population. They also noted the importance of long-term solutions to build resilience and mitigate the impact of future disasters.
The Regional Authority, in collaboration with the UN agencies, is committed to supporting the people of Marka during this challenging time. Efforts will be made to mobilize resources and coordinate response efforts to ensure that the needs of the affected population are met effectively and efficiently.
